The five million commercial/industrial structures operating in the US eat up 49% of our nation’s energy (about 200 billion dollars in annual energy costs). SmartFloor is being developed as a green technology platform to be incorporated into modern floor assemblies to help control building efficiency by tracking occupants and learning how their use the buildings. The application of SmartFloor will be multifaceted, in that our urban environments demand similar real-time tracking technology for interfacing pedestrian-controlled infrastructure as well as data mining vehicular traffic.
